25th November 2021 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong Customs uncovered two airborne drug cases at Chek Lap Kok Hong Kong International Airport last week, seizing 145 kilograms of cocaine and 20 kilograms of “meth” respectively. The market value of the drugs reached 164 million Hong Kong dollars. Among them, the amount of cocaine transported by air seized was the biggest in the past 20 years.

The preliminary investigation by the Customs believed that the drug cartel used electric devices to conceal the drugs and through the mainland logistics company, the local transportation company was commissioned to arrange customs clearance and storage, etc., and the drugs were further forwarded to Australia.

The customs officers selected a cargo containing one piece of transformer from Guatemala, reported to weigh 855 kilograms, and one circuit tester from Mexico, reported to weigh 119 kilogram for detailed inspection. As the above two kinds of goods are rarely transported by air, and the 2 countries of origin were not a common export country of related equipment, the customs officers were suspicious. The customs officer inspected the two cargoes by X-ray scanning, and found suspicious images.
