Assault incident at Tai Wai McDonald’s involves Keeta delivery rider

18th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) An incident of assault occurred at the McDonald’s in Sun Chui Estate, Tai Wai, on the evening of 17th January, involving a delivery rider from Keeta. The worker, reportedly frustrated after being ignored by staff, filmed the employees and uploaded the footage to social media. In a dramatic escalation, he lifted a dessert display stand and threw it at the staff.

Following the altercation, employees called the police for assistance, leading to the arrest of the 28-year-old delivery rider on suspicion of common assault. Reports indicate that there were only minor injuries, with one female staff member, aged 20, experiencing abdominal pain but not requiring hospitalisation.

Footage of the incident has circulated online, showing the delivery rider confronting two female employees. One staff member appeared distressed while the other was seen on the phone, communicating that although she had not sustained any injuries, she felt threatened.

A spokesperson for McDonald’s Hong Kong emphasised that employee safety is the company’s top priority and reiterated their zero-tolerance policy towards violence. With the matter now in the hands of law enforcement, the company declined to comment further.

The police received the report at approximately 6.42pm and have since taken the necessary steps to manage the situation.
