12th July 2024 – (Berlin) The Chinese Embassy in Germany expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to Germany’s recent decision to gradually eliminate Chinese telecom components from its 5G networks. Germany’s Federal Ministry of the Interior announced this decision, citing concerns over security risks.

In response, the Chinese embassy issued a statement asserting that the decision is unjustified, as Chinese companies such as Huawei and ZTE have been operating in Germany in compliance with laws and regulations. These companies, it emphasized, have made significant contributions to Germany’s digitization process.

The embassy further claimed that the alleged “network security risks” are merely an excuse used by certain countries to maintain technological dominance and suppress their competitors. It argued that there is no evidence indicating that Chinese companies pose a threat to any nation’s security.

Highlighting China’s open attitude towards European companies like Nokia and Ericsson in its own 5G infrastructure development, the statement expressed concern that Germany’s decision would severely damage mutual trust and hinder future cooperation between China and the European Union in related fields.

The embassy emphasized that Germany must handle this issue fairly and justly to demonstrate the integrity of its business environment. It criticized Germany and the European side for advocating fair competition while simultaneously imposing discriminatory policies on companies from another country based on unfounded accusations.

Concluding the statement, the Chinese embassy vowed to take necessary measures to safeguard the legitimate interests of Chinese companies.
