12th July 2024 – (Hong Kong) A fire broke out in a unit on the 7th floor of Mei Ting House in Mei Tin Estate, Tai Wai, this morning at 9.58am, causing thick smoke to billow out and prompting multiple distress calls. Firefighters arrived at the scene, deployed a hose and a team equipped with breathing apparatuses. After 21 minutes of relentless efforts, the fire was successfully extinguished. Approximately 190 individuals, including around 100 teachers and students from a kindergarten located on the lower floor, were safely evacuated. Notably, an elderly man residing adjacent to the affected unit remained uncooperative as he reclined on a stretcher bed at the scene. Preliminary reports suggest that the fire may have been triggered by an electrical short circuit caused by a damp power strip in the bathroom.

Witnesses reported thick smoke emerging from the unit on the 7th floor of Mei Ting House. Photographs captured at the scene depict the intensity of the blaze as firefighters battled the flames. Meanwhile, an elderly man, residing next to the unit engulfed in flames, appeared indifferent as he rested on a makeshift bed.
