HK karate contender Grace Lau Mo-sheung secures 2nd bronze medal for HK today, CE extends wishes to her

5th August 2021 – (Tokyo) World ranked No.4 Hong Kong karate contender Grace Lau Mo-sheung defeated Turkish player Dilara Bozan with 26.94 points at Women’s Kata event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Lau successfully won the second bronze medal for the Hong Kong team today after the Hong Kong Table Tennis team secured a bronze medal earlier today.

Dilara Bozan won the gold medal in the women’s individual kata event at the 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games held in Baku, Azerbaijan. She is also a seven-time medalist in this event at the European Karate Championships.

Grace Lau Mo-sheung is a Hong Kong karate contender. She is a bronze medalist in the women’s individual kata event at the World Karate Championships, the Asian Games and the World Beach Games. She is also a three-time medalist at the Asian Karate Championships.

She won the silver medal in the women’s kata event at the 2015 Asian Karate Championships held in Yokohama, Japan. In 2018, she won one of the bronze medals in the women’s kata event at the 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia. Later that year, she also won one of the bronze medals in the women’s kata event at the 2018 World Karate Championships held in Madrid, Spain.

She won a medal at the Asian Karate Championships in 2015, 2018 and 2019. At the 2019 Asian Karate Championships held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, she won the silver medal in the women’s individual kata event.

This is the fifth medal won by the Hong Kong, China Delegation in this Olympic Games. The Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, expressed her sincere congratulations to Lau.

“Grace Lau impressed us with well-executed moves in her own rhythm. Her marvellous performance was a showcase of talent with great strength, speed and beauty. After performing very well and winning various medals at international competitions in recent years, she continued to give an outstanding performance at the Tokyo Olympics today and won a bronze medal, which is well deserved,” Mrs Lam said.

Lau was the Women’s Kata bronze medallist at the 18th Asian Games in 2018. In the same year, she won a bronze medal in the Women’s Kata event at the WKF Senior World Championships, becoming the first Hong Kong medallist of the competition. Lau also won the Female Individual Kata silver at the 16th AKF Senior Championships in 2019.
