Premier Golf tees off on May 23

Surya Nepal Premier Golf Championship, the final event of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2021-22, will be played from May 23 to 26 at the Gokarna Golf Club in Kathmandu.

The four-day event organised by Nepal Professional Golfers Association (NPGA) will be played over 72 holes. A pro-am event of the championship is scheduled for Sunday, a day before the main event tees off, said NPGA general secretary Deepak Acharya at a press conference on Friday.

The cup will be applied after two rounds and only top 21 pros and ties along with top six amateurs who make the professional cut will qualify for the third and fourth rounds.

Altogether 40 professional golfers will compete in the event carrying a total purse of Rs1.461 million. The winner will walk away with Rs250,000, the runner-up will get Rs155,000 and the third place finisher will earn Rs110,000. The pros finishing inside 21 positions will share the cash prize.

Apart from pros, 12 amateurs will also compete in the event. Nepal No 1 pro Bhuwan Nagarkoti, Jayaram Shrestha and Sukra Bahadur Rai are among the top contenders who are expected to face a tough challenge from amateur Subash Tamang, the twin gold medalist of 13th South Asian Games.
