Kathmandu, July 15

The government has recommended that President Bidya Devi Bhandari summon the next session of the House of Representatives on Sunday, July 18.

The decision comes following an order of the Supreme Court to reinstate the House that President Bhandari had dissolved on May 22 upon a recommendation of the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. The court had also told the government to summon the new session by July 18.

Accordingly, a meeting of the cabinet on Thursday made the decision, informs Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand.

Transitional justice mechanisms to get their terms extended

Meanwhile, the government also decided to extend the term of twin transitional justice mechanisms–Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons–by one year.

Khand says the cabinet will now submit a proposal in the House to amend the TRC Act so as to extend the term.

The existing term of the commissions is ending today.
