27th December 2023 – (Seoul) South Korean actor Lee Sun-kyun, known for his role in the Oscar-winning film “Parasite,” has been found dead in an apparent suicide. The actor’s death comes amidst an ongoing investigation into his suspected drug use.
On Wednesday morning, a man in his 40s was discovered unconscious in a car parked at a central Seoul park. Subsequently identified as Lee Sun-kyun, the actor was found in the passenger seat with a charcoal briquette present.
Prior to the discovery, the police had received a report indicating that Lee had left his home after leaving behind a memo resembling a suicide note.
Lee had recently undergone three rounds of police questioning regarding allegations of using marijuana and other illegal drugs at the residence of a hostess employed at a high-end bar in Seoul’s Gangnam district. The incidents in question occurred on multiple occasions since the beginning of this year, including one instance just last Saturday.
The actor maintained his innocence, claiming that he had been deceived by the hostess and was unaware of the nature of the substances he had consumed.
Notably, Lee had tested negative in both the preliminary reagent test conducted during the police investigations and the subsequent lab-based drug test administered by the National Forensic Service last month.
