12th August 2023 – (Taipei) Taiwanese comedian and television host Mickey Huang has been accused of possessing child pornography, with the number of underage victims involved in the case now rising to 41, including a victim as young as 11 years old.
According to reports, the Taipei District Prosecutors’ Office has brought charges against Huang for violating Child and Youth Sexual Exploitation Prevention Act in Taiwan. The investigation began after Huang was previously accused of sexual harassment in 2023, though he was not indicted due to lack of evidence.
Prosecutors have now uncovered evidence that Huang had been downloading and possessing hundreds of explicit videos and images involving underage girls since 2017. Seven of these videos were identified as the basis for the current charges, with the ages of the victims ranging from 11 to 18 years old.
Initially, the prosecutors had opted for a deferred prosecution agreement, requiring Huang to pay a fine of 1.2 million Taiwan dollars and write a 1,200-word letter of remorse. However, this decision was met with significant public backlash, questioning the leniency of the punishment.
As a result, the case was sent back to the High Prosecutors’ Office for further review. After additional investigation, prosecutors have now decided to formally indict Huang, with the Taipei District Court summoning him to appear for a hearing on the afternoon of August 12th.
Huang has reportedly denied the allegations, claiming that the videos were downloaded prior to the implementation of the relevant law and that he did not redistribute or sell the content. However, the prosecutors have now uncovered evidence of 41 underage victims, with the youngest being just 11 years old.
