12th July 2024 – (Hong Kong) At 8.15am today, the Hong Kong Observatory issued a warning regarding an approaching area of thundery showers from the south of Hong Kong. These showers are expected to gradually affect the territory within the next couple of hours. Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and stay informed about the changing weather conditions.
The coast of Guangdong is currently experiencing showers and thunderstorms due to a southerly airstream. This morning, the urban areas of Hong Kong received over 5 millimetres of rainfall from localized showers.
Today’s weather forecast indicates mainly cloudy conditions with a few showers. Initially, some areas may experience heavier showers accompanied by thunderstorms. Throughout the day, there will be intervals of sunshine, but the temperature will remain very hot. In the urban areas, the maximum temperature is expected to reach around 33 degrees Celsius, with a slight increase in the New Territories. Southerly winds will be moderate. Looking ahead to the weekend, the maximum temperature is forecasted to reach 34 degrees Celsius.
The outlook for the coming days suggests mainly fine weather and persistently high temperatures, apart from a few showers over the weekend. Cloudier conditions with scattered showers are expected in the following days. The southerly airstream will continue to bring hot weather and isolated showers to the coast of Guangdong. As the subtropical ridge extends westwards, southeastern China will experience persistently high temperatures during the weekend and early next week. Additionally, a broad area of low pressure will move towards the central part of the South China Sea, gradually affecting the vicinity of the central part of Vietnam and Beibu Wan. This low-pressure system will bring unsettled weather to the central region. As a result, showers are expected to increase over the northern part of the South China Sea and the coast of Guangdong in the middle and latter parts of next week.
