22nd September 2022 – (Hong Kong) At about 1pm today, a 4m long wooden stick carried by a man on the escalator at MTR Siu Hong Station accidentally hit two large metal panels on top, and they subsequently fell to the ground. No injuries were reported.
Other passengers who saw the incident immediately notified the station staff and called the police for help. MTR staff then enclosed the site and arranged for maintenance workers to cover the ceiling with canvas. After preliminary investigation, the police classified the case as property damage.
The staff of the MTR station then came into contact with the relevant passenger, and after learning about the incident, issued a notice of proposed prosecution to the him according to the MTR bylaws.
To ensure the safety of other passengers, the staff of the MTR station immediately suspended the operation of the escalator after the incident and enclosed the affected area. The C3 entrance and exit of MTR Siu Hong Station was reopened after it was confirmed to be safe. All train services were not affected.
