6th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) At approximately 4pm today, a horrific incident unfolded at MTR University Station when a 14-year-old girl fell onto the tracks and was struck by a train heading towards Lo Wu. Emergency services quickly arrived on the scene, managing to rescue the girl from beneath the train. She sustained severe injuries to her head and legs and was rushed to Prince of Wales Hospital for urgent medical treatment. Following the incident, her parents were notified and arrived at the hospital to be with her.
Authorities reported that no suicide note was found at the scene; however, it was revealed that the young girl had been experiencing emotional issues, leading investigators to treat the case as a suspected suicide attempt.
In response to the situation, MTR services between Fo Tan and Tai Po Market were temporarily suspended due to the safety breach. Other train services were adjusted accordingly, with trains operating every eight minutes from Admiralty to Fo Tan and every ten minutes from Tai Po Market to Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau. MTR also arranged free shuttle buses between Sha Tin Station and Tai Po Market Station.
By 5.49pm, MTR announced that the situation had been resolved and services were gradually returning to normal. Preliminary investigations indicated that the girl had fallen from the first platform, and MTR is cooperating with law enforcement to further investigate the incident.
