16th January 2025 – (Zhengzhou) A 17-year-old boy from Henan has endured a harrowing experience after being lured into a scam operation in Myanmar, where he suffered relentless abuse for one year and eight months. Initially enticed by the promise of earning a substantial income abroad, the youth, known as Xiao Long, found himself trapped in a nightmare, enduring physical and psychological torment.
Reports indicate that Xiao Long was deceived into believing he could earn between 10,000 to 20,000 yuan a month, a prospect that seemed appealing to him and his family. However, upon arrival, he was sold to four different companies, forced to engage in online scams targeting wealthy women aged over 40. Failure to meet quotas resulted in severe physical punishments, including squats, frog jumps, and brutal beatings that left him with multiple injuries, including a fractured hand and severe bruising.
After a desperate plea to his parents, Xiao Long was eventually rescued late last year, but the toll of his ordeal was evident. He returned home devoid of self-awareness, exhibiting signs of significant cognitive impairment and displaying strange behaviours such as banging his head against walls and remaining motionless for extended periods. His parents now face the daunting task of helping him relearn basic skills, reminiscent of caring for a toddler.
Volunteers involved in the rescue noted that while Xiao Long’s physical wounds have healed, the psychological damage remains profound and will require ongoing treatment. His case highlights the urgent need for awareness regarding the dangers faced by young individuals lured into foreign job offers, particularly in regions known for human trafficking and scams.
