11th October 2024 – (Hong Kong) A 3-month-old infant girl in dire need of a heart transplant is currently in a critical state at the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit of the Hong Kong Children’s Hospital. The HA urges the public to actively endorse organ donations and contemplate offering the hearts of deceased loved ones to grant a fresh lease on life to others.
Given the gravity of the patient’s condition, alongside local efforts to find a suitable heart, the HA will promptly engage in procedures to seek assistance from the Mainland. In situations where a willing organ donor has passed away and no compatible recipient is identified in the Mainland, the cross-boundary organ donation and matching system will facilitate a transplant in Hong Kong, offering hope to critically ill patients.
The spokesperson stressed that upon locating a suitable heart, the HA will meticulously adhere to organ transplant regulations, submitting all necessary applications to ensure compliance with standards and regulations. Urgency is paramount, with transplant procedures scheduled promptly to save the patient’s life.
