10th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) Four cinemas operated by Golden Harvest, including The Sky at Olympian City, MegaBox in Kowloon Bay, StageE in Tuen Mun, and Galaxy in Shau Kei Wan, initially announced today that they would only be selling same-day tickets, leading to concerns about potential closures. However, by the evening, The Sky, StageE, and Galaxy had resumed online ticket sales for the next two days, with Galaxy even displaying showtimes up to Wednesday, 15th January.
This uncertainty follows a troubling trend within the cinema industry, which has faced numerous challenges over the past year. Reports indicated that nine cinemas have either closed or suspended operations, including two Golden Harvest locations: Kai Tak and V Walk.
Despite the concerns, The Sky, StageE, and Galaxy resumed pre-sales for shows scheduled for 12th January later that evening. Staff at The Sky confirmed that they were unaware of any impending closure and were awaiting further instructions from the company.
