1st October 2024 – (Shenzhen) Shenzhen dazzled spectators by overcoming meteorological challenges to successfully launch drone displays across all designated five districts last evening, marking the commencement of a week-long celebration of the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China.
The citywide drone show titled “Skycity: A Realm of Possibility” is set to light up Shenzhen’s night sky every evening from 1st to 7th October, with a combination of technological innovation and artistic performance designed to enthral both residents and visitors alike.
On the first night, drone squadrons were scheduled to perform in Longhua, Longgang, Futian, Luohu, and Dapeng districts. Longgang and Futian witnessed uninterrupted performances, but initial assessments were underway for the other three districts due to adverse weather conditions.
By 9.10pm, the drones in Luohu took to the skies, followed by those in Longhua at 9.25pm and finally in Dapeng by 9.35pm. Each performance was themed around concepts such as ‘International’, ‘Cultural’, ‘Technological’, ‘Innovative’, and ‘Vibrant’, showcasing a deep integration of ‘culture + low-altitude + technology’ unique to Shenzhen.
Amidst these successful launches, Hong Kong ironically faced its own challenges. Due to ionospheric scintillation affecting Victoria Harbour, drones were unable to secure reliable satellite positioning signals, leading to the cancellation of the pre-fireworks drone show.
