7th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) On 6th January, a Cathay Pacific flight from Sapporo to Hong Kong witnessed an altercation between two women, leading to their arrest for allegedly breaching aviation security regulations.
The incident occurred shortly after the aircraft landed at Hong Kong International Airport around 9.34pm. At approximately 9.45pm, police received reports of unruly behaviour aboard flight CX581. A 60-year-old woman, reportedly intoxicated, became emotionally agitated, prompting a 32-year-old passenger seated nearby to throw a water bottle at her.
Despite attempts by the flight manager to separate the two, the situation escalated when the younger woman hurled a cushion, striking the older passenger. In retaliation, the older woman threw a cushion back. The flight manager then alerted the authorities.
Upon their arrival, police found the younger woman with a head injury and bruised wrist, while the older woman complained of chest discomfort; both declined medical assistance. Following an initial investigation, both women were arrested and the case has been handed over to the Airport Police’s Criminal Investigation Division for further inquiry.
For reference, Cathay Pacific flight CX581 took off from New Chitose Airport at 5.12pm and arrived in Hong Kong at 9.34pm local time.
