31t October 2024 – (Hong Kong) A British man has been formally charged with the murder of a 25-year-old Indonesian domestic helper at Waterfall Bay Park, whose body was discovered early Monday morning. The victim, found submerged in water at the base of the waterfall, exhibited injuries to her forehead and back of the head, suggesting a violent assault prior to her drowning.
The investigation swiftly led to the suspect, a 34-year-old British national holding a Hong Kong ID, who was apprehended with his local wife by the authorities at the West Kowloon Station on Tuesday. The couple had hurriedly travelled to Mainland China following the incident but returned to Hong Kong where they were detained.
The police have confirmed that the man will appear at Eastern Magistrates’ Courts tomorrow morning to face murder charges. His 36-year-old wife, also suspected of aiding the criminal, has been released on bail and is required to report back to police in late November.
According to the police, the victim was last seen alive with the suspect on Sunday night, approximately 40 minutes before he hurriedly left the area alone by taxi. The suspect’s rapid departure from the scene and failure to contact authorities raised immediate suspicions.
