16th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) At around 5.06pm today, a major water main burst occurred on Kwai Fuk Road, near Shing Fuk Street, adjacent to a local school. Witnesses reported a dramatic water column exceeding ten metres, equivalent to five storeys, gushing from the ground, which caused minor disruptions to traffic as vehicles had to navigate through the flooded area.

The Water Supplies Department confirmed that the affected pipe is a 300-millimetre saltwater supply line. In response to the incident, the department has suspended water supply to the affected section and initiated emergency repair work. The incident has temporarily disrupted toilet flushing facilities for residents of nearby areas, including Kwai Chung Estate, Kwai Fuk Court, Kwai Luen Estate, and Kwong Fai Circuit.

Additionally, the fast lane heading east on Kwai Fuk Road near Shing Fuk Street has been closed to facilitate urgent repair operations. The engineering team is working diligently to restore water services and reopen the affected traffic lanes as swiftly as possible. The Water Supplies Department has expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to the public.
