6th December 2023 – (Manila) At least 17 people lost their lives on Tuesday in an accident when a passenger bus careened off a cliff in Antique province in central Philippines, according to local media outlet Iloilo Metropolitan Times. The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office confirmed the devastating news on Wednesday.
The ill-fated bus, carrying a total of 25 passengers and three bus personnel, was en route from Iloilo City to San Jose de Buenavista in Antique province when it collided with a concrete road barrier. The impact sent the bus hurtling into a ravine with a depth of approximately 15 meters. The tragic incident occurred around 4pm local time in Hamtic town.
Reports from Iloilo Metropolitan Times indicate that seven individuals sustained critical injuries in the accident, while four others were in stable condition. The injured parties are currently receiving medical attention.
Preliminary findings suggest that the accident may have been caused by brake defects, as reported by various local media sources. Authorities have wasted no time in launching an investigation to determine the precise cause of the incident.
