7th Janury 2025 – (Hong Kong) With only a few weeks remaining until the Lunar New Year, the highly anticipated “Cathay International Chinese New Year Night Parade” will be held on New Year’s Day, 29th January, promising an evening filled with vibrant festivities. The event will feature nine beautifully designed floats, alongside 46 local and international performing groups, all gathering in Tsim Sha Tsui for a spectacular celebration.

The Hong Kong Tourism Board has announced that this year’s lineup surpasses that of previous years, welcoming popular South Korean girl group Kep1er and Thai boy band LYKN to the city. An estimated 100,000 attendees are expected, with approximately half being visitors, as the board promotes a one-stop webpage to encourage tourists to extend their stay and immerse themselves in Hong Kong’s festive atmosphere.

The theme for this year’s parade is “Wishing You a Joyful New Year,” incorporating local elements into many of the floats. Notable designs include the “Panda Adventures in Hong Kong” float, in collaboration with the Cultural, Sports and Tourism Bureau, which celebrates the local panda economy with a delightful mix of panda-themed elements and traditional Hong Kong milk tea. The Hong Kong Jockey Club float will feature a golden horse adorned with 140 exquisite windmills, symbolising its 140th anniversary and a commitment to working alongside the community.

The opening float from Cathay Airlines will embrace the theme of “Family Reunion and Abundance,” showcasing various calligraphic decorations and a model airplane on top, symbolising the spirit of flying high together. This year, the “LINE Friends” float will make its debut, featuring a sailing boat design that represents transformation, with a character named “Sally,” dressed in a snake hat, to bring good luck.

In addition to the floats, the parade will include performances from 16 troupes from 14 different countries, featuring renowned acts such as the V.UNBEATABLE Dance Group, winners of “America’s Got Talent,” and the acrobatic ensemble Zurcaroh from Austria. Also making an appearance will be the BRAVERY DANCERS from Indonesia, who recently earned a “Golden Buzzer” on “Indonesia’s Got Talent.”

The parade will commence at 8 PM from the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, travelling through Canton Road, Haiphong Road, and Nathan Road, before concluding at the Hong Kong Sheraton Hotel. Prior to the parade, local performers will entertain the crowds with juggling, magic, dance, and street music starting at around 6pm.

There will be approximately 2,500 viewing seats along the parade route, with around 70% of tickets available to the public and tourists, priced between HK$300 and HK$480. Tickets will go on sale at the Tourism Board’s visitor centre in Tsim Sha Tsui starting Saturday, 11th January, at 8am. This year, the parade will also collaborate with the Hong Kong Wishing Festival, allowing locals and visitors to view several floats in Tai Po’s Lam Tsuen Wishing Square from 30th January to 13th February, as well as enjoy performances from participating international troupes.
