7th April 2023 – (Beijing) China and Japan are set to hold the 15th round of high-level consultations on maritime affairs on 10th April in Tokyo, according to a statement from a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson on Friday. The talks will be attended by officials from foreign ministries, defense ministries, maritime law enforcement, and ocean management departments from both countries, marking a comprehensive mechanism for bilateral communication and coordination.
The spokesperson, Mao Ning, stated during a press briefing that China looks forward to fully exchanging views with Japan on sea-related issues in order to enhance mutual understanding and trust between the two countries. China’s aim is to promote proper management of differences and pragmatic cooperation, highlighting the significance of open and constructive dialogue in resolving maritime disputes and fostering peaceful relations in the region.
Over the years, China and Japan have engaged in ongoing consultations on maritime affairs as part of their efforts to maintain stability and cooperation in the region. The 15th round of high-level consultations reflects the commitment of both countries to further enhance their maritime cooperation.
