6th January 2025 – (Naypyidaw) A Chinese actor, known by his stage name “Xing Xing” (real name Wang Xing), has gone missing after travelling to Thailand for a film shoot. He was last heard from on 3th January, when he reportedly lost contact in the Mae Sot area, near the Thai-Myanmar border. His girlfriend, Jia Jia, alerted authorities in Shanghai and shared his plight online, generating significant public concern.
Wang Xing (right) Chinese officials from the consulate in Chiang Mai confirmed on 6th January that they received a call for assistance from the actor’s family and are actively monitoring the situation. There are fears that Wang may have fallen victim to human trafficking, potentially having been taken to a scam zone in Myawaddy, Myanmar.
Jia Jia revealed that Wang departed from Shanghai Pudong Airport on 2nd January, arriving in Bangkok the following day. He then took a car arranged by his agency before losing contact. She has reached out to both the Chinese embassy in Bangkok and the consulate in Chiang Mai for help and plans to travel to Thailand to seek assistance from local authorities.
Reports suggest that Wang has already entered a scam area, with indications that his hair has been shaved. Despite these alarming developments, sources claim he is currently safe and could potentially be rescued.
Xu Dajiu, another actor, has stated that he narrowly escaped from a similar situation and confirmed that Wang has indeed been taken to Myawaddy. Xu warned others against accepting offers to film in Thailand, asserting that such opportunities often lead to exploitation in Myanmar.
The Chinese consulate has assured that it is taking the situation seriously and will work diligently to ensure the safety and rights of its citizens abroad. They have also issued warnings regarding the risks associated with travelling to the area.
