5th January 2025 – (Seoul) In light of the recent political turmoil in South Korea, the Chinese Embassy in Seoul has issued a warning to Chinese nationals residing in the country. On 4th January, the embassy reminded its citizens that, according to South Korean immigration laws, foreign nationals—regardless of their visa status—are prohibited from participating in political activities unless legally exempted. Violating this regulation could result in severe penalties, including forced expulsion.
With numerous protests and political demonstrations occurring across various locations in South Korea, the embassy has urged Chinese citizens and visitors to heighten their awareness of legal matters and personal safety. They are advised to maintain a safe distance from political gatherings and crowded areas, refrain from making public political statements, and remain vigilant regarding traffic disruptions caused by such events to ensure their safety while travelling.
