5th September 2024 – (Hong Kong) As Typhoon Yagi approaches, authorities have announced a series of stringent measures to ensure public safety, including the closure of the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge (HZMB) Hong Kong Link Road from 9pm tonight. The Transport Department stressed that the road will be completely inaccessible to all vehicles until further notice to prevent any accidents caused by the strong winds expected to lash the region.
The rapidly intensifying weather situation has also led to adjustments in public transport schedules and operations. The MTR Corporation has updated its service frequency to adapt to the deteriorating conditions, ensuring that commuters can still rely on public transport for their essential travel needs before the full brunt of the typhoon hits.
Adjusted Public Transport Timetables
MTR Services:
- Tsuen Wan, Kwun Tong, and Island lines are seeing trains every 2 to 3 minutes.
- The South Island line will have services every 3.3 minutes.
- Trains on the Tseung Kwan O Line from North Point to Po Lam and Tiu Keng Leng are running between 2.6 to 6.7 minutes.
- Tung Chung line services from Hong Kong Station to Tsing Yi and Tung Chung vary between 3 to 8 minutes.
- The Disneyland Resort line is operating a train every 5 minutes, while the Airport Express extends intervals to every 10 minutes.
- East Rail line frequencies from Admiralty to Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau are between 3 to 10 minutes.
- The Tuen Ma Line maintains a 3-minute frequency, while Light Rail services range from 5 to 18 minutes.
- MTR Bus services are set to halt three hours after a Signal No. 8 is hoisted.
Cross-Boundary Transport:
- The Lok Ma Chau – Huanggang Cross-boundary Shuttle Bus will continue to operate normally until at least two hours after Signal No. 8 comes into effect, with further adjustments to a 30-minute frequency as necessary.
- The “One Bus Hong Kong Macao” service has suspended trips from Hong Kong to Macao as of 4pm today. The last bus from Macau will depart at 6pm from The Venetian Macao. Services will resume once the typhoon signal is lowered.
Meanwhile, the HZMB Shuttle Bus will stop ticket sales as of 6.20pm and will halt operations by 7.20pm, resuming only when it is deemed safe. Passengers who have purchased tickets can apply for refunds through WeChat or the official website.
