7th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) A traffic incident occurred in the Eagle’s Nest Tunnel around 4.53pm today when a trailer, driven by a 62-year-old man named Chan, reportedly lost control while towing a concrete pump truck. The truck collided with the tunnel’s wall and overturned, causing substantial damage. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported.

Footage from the scene revealed numerous wall panels destroyed and debris scattered across the roadway. Tunnel staff documented the aftermath while police conducted an investigation. Bystanders expressed shock at the sight, with one remarking, “Wow, the whole vehicle is flipped over!”

In the aftermath, workers arrived to cut the bent metal frame connecting the trailer to the pump, allowing the vehicles to be separated. Tunnel personnel were also on-site to clear the wreckage and debris.

The Transport Department announced that due to the accident, several lanes on the Cheung Sha Wan Road (Eagle’s Nest Tunnel) heading towards Sha Tin are now closed, leading to significant traffic congestion.

This incident marks the second occurrence of a heavy vehicle colliding with a tunnel structure within nine days. On 30th December, a crane truck similarly lost control in the Tuen Mun Chek Lap Kok Tunnel Road, resulting in the destruction of approximately 30 metres of wall panels and an emergency exit sign before coming to a halt.
