14th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) A video circulating online has captured a peculiar incident at a pharmacy on Nelson Street in Mong Kok, where a man allegedly attempted to use counterfeit currency. The footage, approximately 53 seconds long, shows the suspect—a man in his forties, dressed in a black hooded jacket—entering the store around 11am today.

After purchasing several skewers of satay fish, the man proceeded to pay with a HK$500 note. However, a vigilant staff member scrutinised the bill, noticing irregularities in the watermark and texture that suggested it was fake. Convinced that the note was counterfeit, the staff member confronted the man, asking, “Are you playing tricks?” The suspect responded, “My family gave it to me!”

The situation escalated when the staff member reiterated the question. The man then questioned, “What’s wrong with this note?” In response, the staff member raised the skewers and struck the counterfeiter, who insisted, “If you won’t accept it, give it back to me.” The staff member promptly escorted him out, stating, “Find somewhere else to eat.”

Online images reveal that the suspect’s HK$500 note is believed to be counterfeit, identified by its rough watermark and metallic thread
