11th January 2025 – (Atlanta) On Friday morning, hundreds of passengers were forced to evacuate a Delta flight using emergency slides after the aircraft aborted takeoff from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Delta Flight 2668, bound for Minneapolis-St. Paul, encountered “an indication of an engine issue” shortly after 9am, prompting the emergency measures.
Passengers exited the Boeing 757-300 through the slides, with ground transportation arranged to return them safely to the terminal. The incident resulted in four individuals reporting minor injuries, one of whom was taken to a nearby hospital, while the others received on-site treatment. The specifics of their injuries have not yet been disclosed.
Delta Airlines expressed its commitment to passenger safety in a statement, saying, “Nothing is more important than the safety of our people and customers, and we apologise to our customers for their experience. We are working to support our customers and get them to their destinations as safely and quickly as possible.”
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced that it will initiate an investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, operations at Atlanta’s airport faced delays, compounded by the ongoing severe winter weather.
As a significant winter storm swept through the region, Atlanta received approximately two inches of snow by noon—the heaviest snowfall in seven years. The storm has caused widespread disruption, with over 2,600 flights cancelled nationwide, particularly affecting major hubs like Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, and Nashville.
