8th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) Dennis Lo was inaugurated on Wednesday as the ninth Vice-Chancellor and President of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). In his first address to the media, Lo expressed his honour in assuming the role and outlined his commitment to elevating the university’s international standing.
Lo emphasised the importance of enhancing quality across various domains, including teaching, research, services, and innovation. He also mentioned plans to engage with his management team, as well as staff, students, and alumni, to foster a collaborative environment.
Addressing recent criticism faced by CUHK’s student publication, U-Beat Magazine, over a report concerning district-level care teams, Lo defended the publication as a valuable platform for students to gain practical experience. He stressed that exposure to diverse opinions is essential for their educational growth.
In an open letter to the CUHK community, Lo expressed his gratitude for the support he has received and reaffirmed his dedication to promoting open discussions within the institution. He also conveyed his enthusiasm for working with faculty and students to cultivate an inclusive campus atmosphere.
