10th January 2025 – (Kyiv) A horrific video recorded by a Ukrainian soldier’s body camera has recently surfaced online, starkly illustrating the brutal realities of war. The footage captures an encounter between a Ukrainian soldier, engaged in a clearing operation, and a Russian soldier hiding within a building. This unexpected confrontation escalated into a violent knife fight, culminating in the Ukrainian soldier collapsing and reportedly uttering “Mama, goodbye” as he pleaded for a peaceful death.
In the video, the Ukrainian soldier communicates with his command centre, indicating that he is approaching a house. At this moment, the concealed Russian soldier opens fire, injuring the Ukrainian’s hand.
As the Russian soldier attempts to flee the building and ambush the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU), the Ukrainian soldier seizes his weapon, leading to a brutal struggle that includes the Russian soldier biting the Ukrainian’s hand.
Throughout the altercation, the Ukrainian soldier can be heard calling for a comrade by the name of Khaza over the radio, but receives no response.
After sustaining two stab wounds from the Russian soldier, the Ukrainian soldier is heard saying, “That’s it, Mama, goodbye,” while imploring the Russian to allow him to die in peace: “Let me breathe, it hurts. Let me leave quietly, don’t touch me, just let me die.”
The Russian soldier subsequently departs, and the wounded Ukrainian expresses gratitude, referring to him as “the best soldier in the world.”
The authenticity of the footage has yet to be verified by the AFU, and the identity and fate of the Ukrainian soldier remain unconfirmed.
The Russian soldier involved has been identified as Andrey Grigoryev from Yakutia in Russia’s Far East. In an interview with state-owned RT, Grigoryev asserted that he never intended to engage in a knife fight with the Ukrainian soldier, stating, “I had no other choice.”
