17th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) A serious incident occurred today, at the Hong Tak Institution of Old Age Limited in Yuen Long, when a dispute over the use of a corridor fan escalated into violence. At approximately 11.13am, a 60-year-old resident, surnamed Ngan, confronted a 68-year-old resident, surnamed Mak, regarding the fan’s operation. The argument quickly turned physical, leading Mak to retrieve a fruit knife and stab Ngan in the abdomen.
Staff members at the care home intervened promptly, controlling the situation and alerting the authorities. Emergency responders arrived shortly thereafter to attend to Ngan, who was then transported to Tuen Mun Hospital for treatment. Mak has since been arrested on suspicion of assault.
Both men reside in separate rooms at the facility and reportedly had a history of conflict. The police have collected the weapon as evidence, and the case is currently under investigation by the second team of the Yuen Long District Criminal Investigation Department.
