11th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) At the Happy Valley Police Station today, a female police officer suffered an injury when her firearm was accidentally discharged. The event occurred around 4pm while she was in the ammunition unloading area, handling a .38 calibre revolver. The officer sustained an injury to her finger and was promptly transported by ambulance to the Ruttonjee Hospital in Wan Chai for treatment. The investigation has been handed over to the Wan Chai Police District’s Criminal Investigation Unit.
This incident is not isolated; there have been previous occurrences involving accidental discharges by police officers. For instance, on 10th July, 2024, a male officer from the Ngau Tau Kok Division inadvertently discharged his weapon while loading a revolver at the police station. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in that case. Additionally, on 13th November, 2023, another male officer at the airport police station experienced a similar incident, again without causing any injuries.
