18th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) A fire erupted in a 2-dish rice shop on Ichang Street in Tsim Sha Tsui today at 3.59pm today, causing a significant scare but fortunately no injuries. The establishment, known for its rice dishes, was ablaze for approximately 15 minutes before firefighters managed to extinguish the flames using a hose and smoke containment equipment.
Initial reports suggest that the fire was ignited when an employee attempting to prepare food accidentally set fire to the oil extractor in the kitchen. At the time of the incident, the owner and two staff members were present in the restaurant. Despite their efforts to douse the flames with a fire extinguisher, they were unsuccessful, leading to the evacuation of ten individuals who were able to leave the premises safely.
The fire also caused a power outage in a neighbouring convenience store, halting its operations. Several residents nearby were affected by the thick smoke and were forced to evacuate to the rooftop for safety. Eyewitness accounts describe a scene where thick black smoke billowed out of the eatery, reaching upwards towards adjacent residential units.
Video footage provided by local residents captured the dramatic moment, showing the heavy smoke pouring from the establishment as individuals fled the scene. Firefighters were seen at the location, battling the blaze while the restaurant’s signage and interior suffered significant smoke damage.
