9th January 2025 – (Singapore) Two individuals tragically lost their lives on Thursday afternoon following a fire in a residential building in eastern Singapore, authorities have confirmed.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) reported that approximately 30 residents were evacuated from the block on Hougang Street as a precautionary measure. The SCDF received an alert about the fire at around 12.40pm, but firefighters encountered challenges accessing the affected unit due to a large amount of items inside.
The fire originated in a third-floor unit, where firefighters ultimately discovered the bodies of two individuals in a bedroom. As of 4.30pm, the firefighting operation was still in progress, according to the latest update from the SCDF.
