16th August 2024 – (Los Angeles) Five individuals, including a physician and an alleged drug dealer, have been charged in connection with the fatal ketamine overdose of Hollywood actor Matthew Perry, who died last year at the age of 54.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California announced the charges on Thursday, alleging that the defendants distributed ketamine to Perry in the weeks leading up to his death.
The indictment names Jasveen Sangha, a drug trafficker, and Dr. Salvador Plasencia as lead defendants. Prosecutors allege that they worked with Dr. Mark Chavez, Perry’s former assistant Kenneth Iwamasa, and a fifth defendant, Erik Fleming, to supply the ketamine that ultimately led to Perry’s demise.
“These defendants cared more about profiting off of Mr. Perry than caring for his well-being,” said U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada in a statement. “Drug dealers selling dangerous substances are gambling with other people’s lives over greed.”
Anne Milgram, administrator of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, echoed these sentiments, stating that “We allege each of the defendants played a key role in his death by falsely prescribing, selling, or injecting the ketamine that caused Matthew Perry’s tragic death.”
