16th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) A traffic incident occurred in Yuen Long around midday today, when a heavy goods vehicle reversing at a junction collided with a minibus. Footage from a dashcam has circulated online, illustrating the moment the heavy goods vehicle, seemingly short of space to manoeuvre onto Kung Um Road, reversed directly into the path of the oncoming minibus.
The collision resulted in significant damage, with the right side of the minibus sustaining heavy impact, its windows shattered and bodywork severely dented. The scene, captured in real-time, left witnesses stunned, with one driver reportedly holding back an exclamation of disbelief.
While the heavy goods vehicle driver attempted to navigate the junction, it appears the vehicle was unable to adequately assess the surrounding traffic conditions, leading to the unfortunate accident. Social media users have since reacted with a mixture of shock and commentary, highlighting the apparent recklessness of both drivers involved. Comments ranged from expressions of sympathy to critiques of the driving behaviour, with some labelling the minibus driver’s actions as dangerously reckless.
