12th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) A hill fire erupted at Pat Heung Kai Kung Leng yesterday afternoon, stretching over several hundred meters as thick smoke blanketed the skies. Despite ongoing efforts, the blaze has persisted for over 15 hours, shrouding Kam Tin in smoke and infiltrating homes. Presently, a single fire line remains, reduced to 80 meters, as firefighters and the Government Flying Service (GFS) continue their relentless efforts to quell the inferno.
On 11th January, a hill fire broke out at Pat Heung Kai Kung Leng, with a long fiery dragon stretching across the hilltop.
Yesterday, at the earliest report of 5.31pm, the police were alerted to a hill fire near Lam Tsuen close to Kai Kung Leng, initially measuring approximately 80 meters in length. Firefighters swiftly responded to combat the flames. By around 10.10pm, the fire had expanded into two fronts, each stretching around 300 meters. By the early hours of today, at 1.44am, the two fire fronts extended to 200 meters and 500 meters respectively.
During the hill fire, individuals found themselves momentarily trapped. Around 6.27pm, a 27-year-old man surnamed Wong and a 34-year-old woman surnamed Chow reported being surrounded by strong winds and dense smoke while hiking. The Government Flying Service promptly dispatched a helicopter to lift the pair to safety and transport them back to their base in Chek Lap Kok.
It was revealed that Wong and Chow had set out for a hike from Sheung Shui to Tai Shui Hang around 3pm. However, upon reaching Kai Kung Leng at approximately 6.27pm, they encountered the hill fire and struggled to find a safe escape route. Promptly alerting authorities for assistance, rescue personnel managed to establish phone contact with the duo, confirming their well-being. Subsequently, both individuals were air-lifted to safety by helicopter, fortunately unharmed.
