6th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) A fatal accident occurred in Kowloon Bay on 3rd January, resulting in the death of a 27-year-old motorcyclist, identified as Mr Wong. The incident occurred at 5.46pm when the rider, allegedly being pursued by traffic police, collided with an off-duty Customs officer who was reportedly attempting to stop him in the middle of Wang Kee Street, near the Hongkong Post Building.

Witnesses suggest that the customs officer, who was off-duty, stood in the road in a bid to halt the motorcycle, leading to a crash that resulted in the motorcyclist fatally striking a pole. The officer sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

In connection with the incident, a 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of interfering with a vehicle. He has since been released on bail, but the investigation remains ongoing as police gather evidence and consult with the Department of Justice regarding the case.

Under Hong Kong’s Road Traffic Ordinance, it is a criminal offence for anyone to unlawfully intervene with a vehicle, punishable by a fine of up to HK$5,000 and a possible 12-month prison sentence.

Footage from the scene shows the motorcycle speeding along the road when the customs officer attempted to block its path. The impact caused both the rider and the bike to lose control, leading to a catastrophic outcome.
