HKU research assistant professor Dr. Kerrie Kiang sued for HK$40 million debt

6th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) Dr. Kerrie Kiang Mei-yee, a research assistant professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Hong Kong, is being pursued for HK$40 million in a lawsuit filed by a creditor in the High Court in 2022. According to the legal documents, Dr. Kiang signed a loan agreement in September 2014 for the amount of HK$40 million.

The plaintiff, Ma Hoi-ming, is seeking a court order for Dr. Kiang to repay the principal amount along with accrued interest and legal fees. The loan note was reportedly signed on 4th September, 2014, and the plaintiff is requesting the court to enforce the repayment.

Dr. Kiang holds a first-class honours degree in medical science from the University of Sydney and obtained a PhD in neuro-oncology from the University of Hong Kong. She has also trained at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, focusing on treatments for glioblastoma.

The case is currently registered under the number HCA 1432/2022.
