Hong Kong Ballet presents spectacular new production of “Swan Lake” by Yuri Possokhov

4th May 2024 – (Hong Kong) The highly anticipated grand finale of the 2023/24 season is set to captivate audiences with the world premiere of “Swan Lake” choreographed by San Francisco Ballet’s Resident Choreographer, Yuri Possokhov. Adding to the excitement, Matthew Ball, principal dancer of The Royal Ballet, will be joining the Hong Kong Ballet (HKB) for this groundbreaking performance. This timeless tale of good versus evil promises to enchant and leave spectators spellbound.

Hong Kong Ballet takes pride in presenting a dazzling new production of “Swan Lake” created by Yuri Possokhov, a choreographer well-known for his energy and sophisticated choreography. This beloved classical ballet, which has delighted generations of ballet enthusiasts, tells an enchanting story of love triumphing over evil. Possokhov’s reimagined version infuses the production with his unique artistic vision.

The narrative unfolds as Prince Siegfried encounters the delicate White Swan, Odette, in the woods and is immediately captivated by her grace. However, their love is threatened by the malevolent sorcerer Von Rothbart, who has cast a curse upon Odette. The ballet becomes a race against time as Prince Siegfried attempts to break the spell before the cunning Black Swan, Odile, prevails. The dual role of Odette/Odile is one of ballet’s most demanding, both technically and emotionally, requiring the ballerina to seamlessly embody Odette’s innocence and Odile’s seductiveness.

Accompanied by Tchaikovsky’s poignant and soaring score, this mesmerizing tale of rapture, betrayal, and redemption promises to inspire awe and wonder. The sublime dancing, stunning sets, and exquisite costumes, combined with the participation of internationally renowned guest artists, will transport audiences into a world of enchantment.
