11th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) As an intense winter monsoon sweeps through Guangdong, Hong Kong faces a bitterly cold morning tomorrow. A Cold Weather Warning is currently in effect, indicating that temperatures across the territory will dip to 11°C or lower. Notably, the New Territories will experience even chillier conditions, with Ta Kwu Ling forecasted to plummet to a frigid 5°C, making it the coldest spot in the region. Other areas such as Sheung Shui, Tai Po, and Shek Kong are expected to register temperatures around 8°C.
Residents are urged to dress warmly and maintain adequate ventilation indoors. It is particularly important to minimise exposure to cold winds, especially in elevated or exposed areas, to avoid adverse health effects.
Additionally, those living near elderly individuals or individuals with chronic health conditions are encouraged to check in on them regularly to ensure their needs are met. Safety precautions for heaters should be observed, ensuring they are positioned away from flammable materials, and the use of indoor fires for warmth is strongly discouraged.
The Hong Kong Observatory has reported that humidity levels remained below 40% in the afternoon, contributing to the dry conditions expected throughout the day, with a predicted high of around 18°C. Winds will be moderate from the north to northeast, occasionally becoming fresh offshore and strong in elevated regions.
