Hong Kong Customs seizes 310,000 suspected illicit cigarettes valued at HK$1.5 million

10th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) On 9th January, Hong Kong Customs successfully confiscated around 310,000 suspected illicit cigarettes, estimated to have a market value of approximately $1.5 million and a potential duty loss of about $1.03 million. The seizure took place at the Inbound Cargo Examination Building at the Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point.

Customs officers conducted a risk assessment and inspected a container truck that had declared its cargo as cross-border e-commerce goods and household items arriving from Dongguan, Guangdong. Upon inspection, officers discovered the illicit cigarettes cleverly concealed within toy packaging boxes inside the container.

The investigation into this matter is ongoing.
