10th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong Customs officials seized approximately 2 kilograms of suspected cocaine in Sau Mau Ping on 9th January with the estimated market value of the drugs around $1.7 million. Two individuals, a 28-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, were taken into custody during the operation.
The anti-narcotics operation took place last night when Customs officers intercepted the pair and discovered the suspected cocaine concealed in a rucksack carried by the woman. Following the seizure, both individuals were arrested.
The woman has been charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and is scheduled to appear at the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts on 11th January. The man has been released on bail as investigations continue.
Trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious violation under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, carrying a maximum penalty of a $5 million fine and life imprisonment upon conviction.
