15th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong Customs executed a significant anti-narcotics operation in Causeway Bay on 14th January, resulting in the seizure of approximately 31.5 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine, 2.5 kilograms of suspected liquid methamphetamine, and various drug packaging paraphernalia, with an estimated total market value of around HK$19 million. One individual has been arrested in connection with the case.
The operation was focused on a 34-year-old woman suspected of overseeing a drug storage centre in the area. Customs officers conducted a search of the premises, where they uncovered the substantial quantity of suspected drugs and packaging materials. The woman, who identified herself as a tattooist, was arrested at the scene and has been charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug. She is scheduled to appear at the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts on 16th January.
As the Chinese New Year holidays approach, Customs anticipates an increase in local drug demand and has pledged to intensify enforcement efforts to combat drug trafficking activities in the lead-up to the festivities. Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a grave offence, carrying a maximum penalty of a $5 million fine and life imprisonment upon conviction.
