Hong Kong ramps up transport services tonight for post-fireworks National Day travel surge

1st October 2024 – (Hong Kong) As Hong Kong gears up for an influx of travellers following the National Day Fireworks Display tonight, the Chief Secretary for Administration’s interdepartmental working group on festival arrangements has issued new guidelines to ensure smooth travel during the Golden Week celebrations. The Transport Department (TD) is urging those planning to use land-based Boundary Control Points (BCPs) to make early travel arrangements and allocate ample commuting time.

The TD has confirmed that while MTR services will maintain regular operating hours tonight, frequencies will be increased post-fireworks to aid in crowd dispersal. Travellers heading towards Shenzhen can catch the last MTR East Rail Line train departing from Admiralty Station at 11.01pm. Additionally, round-the-clock operations at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and Lok Ma Chau-Huanggang Port will continue, with enhanced services of the HZMB Gold Bus, the Lok Ma Chau-Huanggang Yellow Bus, and short-haul cross-boundary coaches to accommodate the expected rush back to Shenzhen, Zhuhai, and Macao.

Local public transport operators are also preparing for the surge by arranging additional vehicles and staff to support cross-boundary travellers. The TD’s Emergency Transport Co-ordination Centre will operate continuously, monitoring traffic and public transport conditions across districts, BCPs, and major stations, ensuring timely updates through various communication channels.
