6th December 2023 – (Hong Kong) Best Quarters Travel, a local ground handling service travel agency, operating under the name, BEST QUARTERS LIMITED, has been accused of failing to repay over HK$1 million in advance payments owed to approximately 30 tour guides. The outstanding payments are related to expenses such as the rental of tour buses and meals for tour participants and have yet to be settled.
The affected tour leaders, who are the primary victims in this case, have expressed their frustration with the company’s management, claiming that the person in charge has evaded responsibility by asserting that they are merely a figurehead. Despite seeking assistance from the police and the Labour Department, the tour leaders have faced challenges in obtaining appropriate support due to their self-employed status. With a significant decline in the number of inbound tours, many tour leaders have been forced to switch careers, resulting in financial difficulties. As one tour leader put it, “To be honest, we don’t even have enough money for meals.”
Attempts to contact Best Quarters Travel by phone proved unsuccessful, and email inquiries regarding the matter have gone unanswered since last week.
