16th January 2025 – (London) A Hong Kong woman has taken to social media to express her frustrations after relocating to the U.K. just a month ago. Despite sending out more than 100 job applications and even personally delivering her CV to various establishments, she has received little to no response, with a few replies consisting solely of rejection emails.
The woman, who relocated with her partner due to the lower cost of living in Preston, England, now finds herself facing the harsh realities of winter without adequate heating. With limited financial resources, they are trying to save money wherever possible, resulting in a chilling situation where she is reluctant to turn on the heating, opting instead to bundle up in a down jacket to stay warm.
In her post, she detailed her willingness to accept any job, having applied for positions ranging from restaurant work to roles in supermarkets and factories. Despite having prior work experience in the UK from a previous working holiday, she believes that her choice of location may have severely limited her opportunities.
Reflecting on her decision, she lamented the choice of Preston over larger cities like London or Manchester, where she initially hoped to find work and save money. Instead, she described her current town as isolated, making it exceptionally difficult to secure employment.
The post resonated with many online, sparking discussions about the challenges of relocating and the realities of job hunting in a foreign country.
