17th January 2024 – (Seoul) Reports from multiple media outlets suggest that a warrant seeking the detention of South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol for up to 20 days is on the horizon. According to local media Newsis, the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) has already submitted a request for the warrant. However, confirmation from other media sources remains pending, with expectations that the formal request will be made later today.
President Yoon was arrested at the presidential office on Wednesday in connection with allegations surrounding his imposition of martial law.
