7th April 2023 – (Hong Kong) In a recent update from Siu Lam Hospital, it has been revealed that three more patients in the male ward for severe intellectual disability have tested positive for Influenza A. The patients, aged between 50 and 59, had presented with respiratory symptoms and were immediately subjected to viral tests, which confirmed the presence of the virus. As a result, the hospital has suspended admission to the ward and imposed restricted visiting to contain the outbreak.
The three patients who tested positive for Influenza A are currently receiving treatment under isolation at Siu Lam Hospital. One patient is in serious condition due to an underlying disease, while the other two are in stable condition. The hospital has intensified infection control measures in accordance with established guidelines to prevent further spread of the virus. All other patients in the ward are also under close surveillance to monitor for any symptoms of respiratory illness.
Upon discovery of the outbreak, Siu Lam Hospital promptly reported the cases to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up actions. The hospital is working closely with the authorities to implement appropriate measures to contain the situation and ensure the safety of all patients and staff.
