31st October 2024 – (Beirut) Israeli airstrikes on Wednesday targeted numerous towns and villages in eastern and southern Lebanon, resulting in the deaths of 31 individuals and injuring 27 others, according to official and military sources in Lebanon.
The Lebanese military reported that Israeli warplanes and drones conducted 55 airstrikes across southern Lebanon, with 17 of those strikes hitting the southeastern village of Khiam. The National News Agency (NNA) noted that the air assaults also included strikes on the nuns’ neighbourhood in the city of Nabatieh, where several buildings were destroyed.
In addition, the areas surrounding the eastern city of Baalbek experienced 15 air raids. Following evacuation warnings from Israeli forces, approximately 100,000 residents fled their homes in Baalbek within hours, leading to a significant displacement crisis.
Emergency response teams, including the Civil Defense, Lebanese Red Cross, and the Islamic Health Authority, are actively engaged in search and rescue operations, sifting through the rubble of destroyed structures to locate missing persons.
In a series of statements, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for retaliatory actions, stating that its fighters targeted several Israeli installations with missiles and drones. Notable targets included the Adam Camp for special forces training southeast of Tel Aviv and a missile defence base east of Hadera.
